Spending quality time at a local assisted-living facility on Valentine’s Day.
Problem solved:
Members in New Jersey bring joy to older area residents through ongoing monthly visits to an assisted-living community.
What was done:
Members in New Jersey bring joy to older area residents through ongoing monthly visits to an assisted-living community. And while there, they do more than chat: The students plan bingo games, arts and crafts, scavenger hunts and other activities for an inclusive experience. Each February, in celebration of Valentine’s Day, Key Clubbers hold an afternoon Sweethearts Dance, set to a list of the residents’ favorite songs. Club members handcraft corsages for the residents, using artificial flowers, floral tape, ribbons and safety pins purchased from a dollar store. On the big day, students dress up for the occasion, lead line dances and staff a photo booth complete with props to record memories. Pictures are printed onsite for the residents to keep as souvenirs.
