Inspiring youth through reading programs.

Problem solved:

Members wanted to find an interactive way to engage the youth within their community while driving service participation in their club.

What was done:

While many teens took to Pennsylvania pools in June and July, members headed to the public library. Inspired by the 2017-18 Youth Serving Youth theme, Early Childhood Education, they read books to kids as part of the Children’s Summer Reading Program. After sharing the day’s story, members interacted with their young guests through bingo, arts and crafts, building contests and other fun activities. Club members participated three times a week for three weeks. “There was an average of 20 children who attended the program each day,” says Key Club member Emily Loccisano, “so our help was definitely needed.”
