The Mystic Valley Key Club in Massachusetts (New England and Bermuda District) received a YOF grant in 2019 for its Mystic Valley K.I.D.S. (Key Club Instructional Day for Students) service project. In 2020, the club received another grant for a fundraising service project, the Mystic Valley Key Club Car Wash. This Key Club is extremely active year–round, raising awareness on local and global issues among members as well as making a determined effort to develop relationships with other kids in the community. MV Key Club holds two car washes every year. Key Club members wash cars for free and collect donations for two organizations, RESPOND (a domestic violence family shelter) and the Tanzania Education Corporation, which provides supplies to Tumaini Schools students. The Youth Opportunities Fund grant allowed the club to buy supplies necessary to advertise the fundraiser and be more efficient during the car wash.
During the MV K.I.D.S. project, Key Club members hosted several classes to help elementary students learn a new skill and connect with high school students. The project spanned two events and funded enough supplies to teach kids how to have fun and get hands on with crafts, making slime, decorating T-shirts or painting with acrylics.
The local community needs this Key Club to connect its students to the bigger, global issues facing children today and to make sure local families know how much Key Club members care.
