By Key Club International Trustee Emily Dudash
Each year, Key Clubs worldwide participate in fundraising for Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF in October. In 2023, those funds went toward Key Club International’s Start Strong: Zambia campaign in support of UNICEF.
Started in 2022, Start Strong: Zambia raises money to help young children in Zambia, a southeastern African country, have the best possible start in life. In 2023, Key Club International raised over US$80,000 for the Start Strong: Zambia initiative, with over $55,000 raised during Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. Thanks to all the hard work from Key Club members, over $150,000 has been raised for Start Strong: Zambia since August 2022.
Since the project began, the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District has raised over $21,000 — more than any other Key Club district. In 2023 alone, the district contributed over $8,600. The Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee District has raised the second highest amount: over $14,300, with over $7,200 raised in 2023. The Minnesota-Dakotas District has raised about $9,400 since 2022, with $2,280 coming in 2023.
In 2023, 78 clubs donated at least $250 and will receive a Start Strong: Zambia Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF patch. Special thanks to Baton Rouge Magnet High School of the Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee District, which raised the most of any Key Club — more than US$6,270!
We are so proud of the hard work from all Key Clubs that participated. Remember, you can raise funds for Start Strong: Zambia throughout the year. Learn more here.
