By Mary Bowen, Fridley Key Club advisor, Columbia Heights/Fridley Kiwanis Club
The Fridley Key Club made great door signs for a local nursing home. The effort was so successful that additional requests were received, and the project grew and grew. It blossomed to include box covers for turkey meals given away by the North Suburban Kiwanis Club, another nursing home and Meals on Wheels.
Next, members of the Columbia Heights/Fridley Kiwanis Club and the Fridley Key Club reached out to their families and to workers at a local bank for assistance coloring paper turkeys — the more whimsical, the better. The Key Club provided a basic design and paper.
The finished turkeys went far beyond the Key Clubbers’ expectations. The participants had dressed them in swimsuits, tuxes, formals, polka–dot dresses and Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings uniforms.
Who says you can’t do service from home?
The turkeys will be distributed to homes this week. The Key Clubbers can’t wait to hear the comments from those who receive them.
