March for babies
The March of Dimes, Key Club International’s spring Season of Service partner, has changed the name of its biggest event to March for Babies.
Though the name of the event is changing, the mission will not. The March of Dimes will continue to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
During the last weekend of April, millions of Americans are coming together to participate in March for Babies to help the March of Dimes ensure that every baby has a healthy start in life.
There are more than 1,000 March for Babies events taking place in communities throughout the United States.
March for Babies raised US$117 million in 2007. Since 1970, this event has enabled the March of Dimes to support lifesaving efforts such as:
- Folic acid education campaigns to help prevent neural tube defects, serious birth defects of the brain and spine.
- Special intensive care nurseries in hospitals for sick newborns.
- Surfactant therapy to help babies born with underdeveloped lungs breathe.
- Community grants to help pregnant women get access to prenatal care.

Two YOF deadlines this year
The application deadline for the Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is changing.
During the transition in 2008, there will be two dates before which clubs need to apply for grants in order to be considered: May 15, 2008 and October 15, 2008.
Starting in 2009, the YOF deadline will be October 15 only.
The YOF is an endowed fund for Key Club International administered through the Kiwanis International Foundation. The fund, using only interest earned, offers grants to clubs for service projects, and it could be your club’s key to a fantastic service project when money is scarce.
To apply for a YOF grant, your club simply needs to complete the online application available via www.keyclub.org/magazine/april08.asp.
