A week of service and fun

by Scott Berg
District Webmaster, Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District

The first couple days of ICON are wrapped up, and it has been awesome! Over the last two days I have met countless new Key Clubbers from all over the world—from Aruba to New York—they are all here.

One of the most fun experiences so far has been the Meet and Greet. Almost all the Key Clubbers that came to ICON convened in a large ballroom to mingle, make new friends and most of all have fun. There was a giant game of twister, dancing and even a mechanical bull! So much excitement for day 1!

On day two of my ICON adventures, my peers and I went to a caucusing session and meet the candidates who are running for positions on the 2011–12 International Board. Caucusing may not seem fun, but to my surprise I loved the experience. I got to hear a bunch of new and exciting ideas on how the candidates want to make Key Club bigger and better—from expanding clubs and making new districts, to translating the current Key Club resources into different languages for international clubs so they, too, can succeed.

To cap off day two, we walked for The Eliminate Project. Hundreds of Key Clubbers walked a mile-and-a-half and raised US$15,418—the equivalent of approximately 8,000 mothers vaccinated! Not only was the walk a great way to help many people in need, it was also SUPER FUN. We walked on a cool Arizona night and experienced the beautiful desert landscape firsthand.

I know there will be many more great experiences to come!

Cheers,
Scott
